Boarding out registers, 1885-1904.

The State Board of Health, Lunacy, and Charity was authorized by St 1885, c 385 to place certain insane persons at board in suitable families. Boarding out registers were created by the board and its successors in this function to record information about and to monitor those so boarded out. The first register, 1885-1889, also contains at the beginning a separate listing of boarded out patients arranged by means of financial support (state, municipal, or private) and at the end a quarterly schedule of insane persons boarded in families, 1885-1898, listing amounts paid to families.
